Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Calvin Harrison studied at Yale University where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in environmental studies and modern Middle East studies. As a native desert dweller, his academic interests focus on sustainable urban development and transportation in arid regions. During college, he spent seven months in Amman, Jordan, where he studied, researched wine and olive oil production, and interned at the Hashemite Fund. He has studied Arabic for nine years, including a summer in Marrakech, Morocco, and conducted thesis fieldwork among Bedouin in the Naqab Desert. Since graduation, he has lived and worked in Cairo, Egypt, where he translates, researches, and edits for a business news publication. He has more than three years of experience teaching English as a foreign language and helping with college prep examinations and essay writing.
